Employee Giving 2012

Based on the incredibly generous $130,000 contributed in 2011 by more than 300 college employees, it is clear that we know the importance of the Empire State College Foundation to the life of the college.  From your own vantage, you see first-hand the students who come to us seeking a better life for themselves and their families. You know their dreams of crossing the stage at graduation.  Your dedication and effort in supporting these students is evident in the work you do, day in and day out.

Unfortunately, all too often, we see students who have to stop short of their goals because they lack the financial support.  Since our founding in 1971, Empire State College has promised access – giving deserving students a chance.  But the idea of access is meaningless if hard-pressed adults and their families simply cannot afford to avail themselves of the opportunity of higher education.   

Although our foundation is still relatively small, last year we managed to put more than a half million dollars in scholarships directly into the hands of deserving students.  And we assisted our students with Foundation Loans to the tune of $1.2 million. 

That kind of money has to come from somewhere: alumni, friends, and some corporate and foundation donors.  But, there is a proud tradition here, in this kind of mission-driven institution, of employees also giving back.  We invite you to join us in this year’s campaign and help ensure that deserving students who want to come to Empire State College can afford to do so.

Each center that increases participation by 5% over last year will receive an ice cream social with Hugh Hammett, 2012 Employee Giving Chair, to be held in early 2013!
