What three words best describe who and what you are?
Pragmatic, Persistent, and Empathetic.
What inspired you to earn your college degree? What was your “moment”?
After taking a “year” off – that lasted 22 yrs. – I decided that I was never going to advance my career past the technician level. I had many years of experience across all areas of my field, but without a degree, I was at the end. I wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of others but I could not advance to higher levels of responsibility.
Why did you choose to attend ESC?
The care and empathy shown to me by the CNY Binghamton location- Cynthia Krendl and Barbara Rivera. They assured me that I would be OK, especially since I had an irrational concern over my past college experience.
Who supported and encouraged you along the way?
My Family. CNY Binghamton location staff and others at various centers; Dr. Duncan RyanMann; Mr. Don Sheldon; Mr. Charles Kirch; Mr. Michael Williams; Various Subject Matter Experts that validated my knowledge via work experience….and many others.
What, if any, obstacles did you overcome?
FEAR that past performance is a good metric to predict future outcomes…..is false – I did not do well at a different SUNY school so many years ago. Maturity plays a LARGE part in successful outcomes.
What advice would you give to a prospective ESC student?
PERSEVERE and NEVER give up. You are directing your path, no one else. Set goals and find a mentor to help clarify objectives.
Why do you give back to SUNY Empire?
Because they gave me a fantastic opportunity.
How has your experience at ESC changed your life since graduation?
I now hold a professional certification in my field and manage the Environmental, Health and Safety program at a 370 person facility with seven(7) direct reports. I am fulfilling my goal as the LEADER who finds the best in people and develops them to their potential.
