Why did you choose Empire State College? What do you think is the best thing about the college?
I decided to choose SUNY Empire because it allowed me to create a degree plan that would set me up for success. Two of the best things that SUNY Empire has to offer is their amazing faculty members and flexibility to complete school work while balancing a career.

As a transfer student, could you briefly describe your academic history prior to attending SUNY Empire
Before attending SUNY Empire, I went to a private university thinking that I would receive an excellent education. I quickly realized that the school was unaffordable and that I was taking courses that I had already completed in high school. Essentially, I was overpaying on classes that I was required to take to finish a degree but was not academically advancing.

How did Empire State College help you shape your personal and professional goals?
While attending SUNY Empire, I was working part-time and doing multiple side jobs since I was paying for school on my own. I worked like crazy during my undergraduate years and decided to do two 20-credit semesters on top of that. SUNY Empire shaped my personal and professional goals by having me become more focused, driven, and organized while managing my coursework and balancing jobs.

What is your career highlight or proudest career moment to date?
The highlight of my career started with being accepted into SUNY Empire’s MBA program and Human Resource Management Certificate program. I never thought that I would have a career in Human Resources, but once when I was accepted into the certificate program, it motivated me to look for entry-level positions. I was accepted into the certificate program in May 2016, was interviewed for a Human Resources job in June 2016, and landed the job in July 2016. Without SUNY Empire, I wouldn’t have known what field my career would be in- and for that, I thank them immensely.

What advice would you give to a current Empire State College student?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and speak with your mentor- they’re there for a reason! If there is ever a time where you feel overwhelmed, they are your best resource to help you through the coursework. I couldn’t have completed my degree without speaking to faculty, my professors, and fellow students.

Why do you give back to SUNY Empire?
SUNY Empire has transformed me into a motivated, driven, and hard-working individual. In return, I love to assist faculty members with Information Sessions, Open Houses, and Commencement so that I can share my experience with new and potential students.
