This scholarship honors the life and work of Alfred Z. Solomon, an entrepreneur, pioneer in the fashion industry through the sale of ladies hats, patron of the Saratoga Race Course and philanthropist. Awards are given to currently enrolled students who are Saratoga County residents and graduates of SUNY Adirondack, Hudson Valley Community College or Schenectady County Community College.

Established in 2015 through the generosity of the family of Amy Stock. The Amy Stock Memorial Scholarship in Sustainability honors her commitment to sustainability issues and environmentalism, her collaborative work with colleagues and dedication to our learners. It is awarded to undergraduate female students with financial need, pursuing a degree in the sciences, who meet the Empire State College Foundation’s scholarship eligibility criteria. Preference is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to bringing environmentally sustainable practices to their communities. Special consideration is given to students from under-represented backgrounds, raised in single-parent homes, and/or pursuing a degree in environmental science/studies.

Arcadeo and Sadie J. Browne Amparado "Force for Change" Scholarship

Established in 2014 through the generosity of Keith Amparado, the Arcadeo and Sadie J. Browne Amparado “Force for Change” Scholarship is open to Black male students in any program of the college who meet the Foundation’s scholarship eligibility criteria. Eligible students will be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Community & Human Services, Human Development, Labor Studies, Social Theory Structure & Change, or a related field that will empower them to become a “Force for Change” and have a positive impact on our political, economic and social systems and institutions. Black Male Initiative Scholarship

Established in 2013 through the generosity of the founding leaders of the Black Male Initiative student organization and other members of the college community, the Black Male Initiative (BMI) Scholarship seeks to encourage and support the undergraduate academic careers of academically promising Black men with financial need. The BMI Scholarship is available to Black male undergraduate students who are actively participating in the BMI student organization. Recipients must reside in the Metropolitan New York region. Preference is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to use their education to benefit their communities.

C. Penn Wettlaufer Scholarship

Established in memory of C. Penn Wettlaufer, a faculty member in the Niagara Frontier region who passed away in 2000, the C. Penn Wettlaufer Scholarship will help defray educational expenses for students in any area of study. The scholarship will be awarded to students with financial need in the final year of their degree program, residing in the Niagara Frontier region. First preference is to students living in Erie County, with students residing in Niagara, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus Counties also eligible.

Dean's Fund for Part-Time Students in Cheektowaga-Buffalo

The fund has been established to supplement funding for students in Cheektowaga who find the demands of full-time study unworkable, to enable them to move to part-time study. It may also be used to assist current part-time students to successfully complete their studies. Recipients must be matriculated undergraduates who have applied for all available financial aid; preference for students who are employed full-time or are working more than one job, and have children in the home.

The Dr. John M. Beckem II Scholarship is for students with an interest in technology who are pursuing an associate, bachelor's or master's degree in the Business Management and Economics, or Science Math and Technology areas of study. A supplemental application essay is required.

The Drs. James Gibson and Patricia Brozinsky Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to those students enrolled in the Social Policy program at the Master’s level of Empire State College who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. Preference will be given to students currently working in, or aspiring to establish a career in higher education.

Dyson Foundation Scholarship in Nursing

To be awarded to undergraduate or graduate nursing students with financial need residing and working in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam or Ulster Counties. Students must intend to continue living and working in those specified counties in a health care profession after graduation. Repeat awards will be made to the same student each year until they graduate, as long as they remain academically successful.

The scholarship will be awarded with a preference for students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Veterans Services program, on the basis of need and academic promise. Secondary consideration will be given to students studying in the field of Veterans Services, or veterans enrolled in any program who have distinguished themselves through military service. Submission of a FAFSA is recommended but not required; 8 prior credits and 80% completion rate requirement may also be waived for certificate students.

Established in 2014 through the generosity of Joyce E. Elliott, a retired faculty mentor at the Center for Distance Learning. Provides support for students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Empire State College. This memorial scholarship honors the life and work of Dr. Michael Lamanna, who died in 2002. The bulk of Professor Lamanna's career was spent at the State University at Albany. He was an integral part of the education department, teaching methods courses and mentoring teachers in training. Dr. Lamanna loved to learn, he loved to teach each and every day of his 43 year career as an educator.

Awarded to nursing students from the nine-county Mohawk Valley geographic area (Schenectady, Saratoga, Fulton, Montgomery, Warren, Washington, Albany, Rensselaer and Schoharie), who demonstrate financial need and plan to work in the Mohawk Valley Medical Associates area after graduation from the nursing program.

The Nancy C. Harvin "Bless Your Heart” Scholarship was created in 2015 by Dr. Nancy Kymn Harvin Rutigliano, a professor at SUNY Empire State College. The scholarship honors her mother, Nancy Collier Harvin, who is known for her deep wisdom, sage advice, and Southern hospitality. This scholarship is designed to support students in need who reflect Nancy's life of service and values and want to “bless hearts” as she has done throughout her life. Preference is given to students who are beginning or returning to college after raising a family or caring for those in need; have a passion for serving others and our country; seek to be “trailblazers” and courageous leaders who fight for the less fortunate, and enroll through the School of Nursing or in the Community and Human Services program.

The Ortiz Family Scholarship is established to promote diversity in the pool of people pursuing careers as K-12 educators. This scholarship will be awarded with preference given to students from a traditionally underrepresented background enrolled in Empire State College's Master of Arts in Teaching program. Richard Porter Leach Fellowship for the Arts

The Richard Porter Leach Fellowship allows active and established performing artists to pursue a college degree while continuing to practice their craft. To be considered as a Richard Porter Leach Fellow, an applicant must be a matriculated undergraduate student at Empire State College studying in the arts. The Leach Fellowship provides all tuition, fees and books. The fellowship continues until the student completes his or her degree, as long as he or she remains in good academic standing and is active in the craft. In honor of Dr. Rodgers’ deep commitment to lifelong learning and academic challenge, the Robert R. Rodgers Scholarship will be awarded to students residing in the Niagara Frontier region who are pursuing studies in one of the broad areas in which Dr. Rodgers worked – human development, community and human services, and cultural studies including the study of poetry.

Rosa Parks Scholarship

Established in 1999 by an alumna of the Graduate Studies program, this scholarship is intended to help further the graduate education of active trade unionists in the college’s Work and Labor Policy program by providing for partial graduate tuition.

Roth Family Scholarship

Established in 2015 through the generosity of James '05 and Jeanmarie Roth, the scholarship will be awarded to currently enrolled students with financial need living on Long Island. First preference is given to students who are working as police, fire or first responders.

Sal and June Rubino Fund

Established by the late Sal and June Rubino, the scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the School for Graduate Studies pursuing a Certificate in Health Care Management. Secondary consideration will be made for students in other health-related disciplines.Submission of a FAFSA is recommended but not required; 8 prior credits and 80% completion rate requirement may also be waived for certificate students.

Stat Staff Professionals Nursing Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Nursing. Preference is given to students living or working in the Capital Region of New York. Multi-year awards are preferred. The Stat Staff Professionals Nursing Scholarship will help defray educational expenses for students who meet the established Foundation Scholarship eligibility criteria – including matriculation, appropriate GPA, and successful academic progress.

SUNY Graduate Diversity Fellowship Program (GDFP)

This program will assist the college in the recruitment, enrollment and retention of students in master's level programs who can demonstrate that they will contribute to the diversity of the student body in their program and that they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Preference is given to applicants who have not yet enrolled as a matriculated graduate student at Empire State College. The fellowship covers tuition and fees for the fall and spring terms. Susan and Bill Dake Graduate Scholarship

The Susan and Bill Dake Scholarship will be awarded to students with financial need who are enrolled in a degree-seeking program within the School for Graduate Studies. The scholarships will have a preference for master’s students with high financial need and academic promise.

Established in 2009 by Empire State College alumna and former diploma nurse, Mabel Walker and her husband T. Urling Walker. The T. Urling and Mabel Walker Endowed Scholarship in Nursing will be awarded to a student or students from Watertown pursuing a degree through Empire State College’s Nursing Program. Students will be selected based on geographic location, academic promise and financial need. If there are no students from Watertown the scholarship will go to a student from the greater North Country area.

Established by long time faculty mentor Toni Schwartz, this scholarship was created to provide students with educational opportunities that might otherwise exceed their reach. The Toni R. Schwartz Scholarship is available to undergraduate students demonstrating financial need studying Community and Human Services and residing in the Hudson Valley region.

Torres-Wilczewski Scholarship

The Torres-Wilczewski Scholarship will be awarded to students residing in the Central New York region with a preference given to students of ethnic or racial minorities or to students of Polish descent. Awards will be merit-based. Financial need is not necessary but will be considered.

The Yip Harburg scholarship will be distributed to students residing in the Metropolitan New York region with a preference for students majoring in the Arts, first priority to those in the Performing Arts, in particular those concentrating in musical theater or dance (musical expression). Students with other concentrations in the arts - performing arts, history, art therapy, education through the arts, film or visual arts - may be considered if their studies relate to the mission of the Yip Harburg Foundation.
