Why did you choose Empire State College? What do you think is the best thing about the college?
I first chose SUNY Empire when it was a new program tucked away in a little, white house on the SUNY New Paltz campus. Life experience credits attracted me. My return and successful encounter was propelled by life experience and later cemented by being introduced to my mentor, Shelly Dixon.

How did Empire State College help you shape your personal and professional goals?
My mentor and my professors encouraged and empowered me to complete my goals.

What is your career highlight or proudest career moment to date?
When a parent of a former Head Start child called to tell me her son was leaving for college. She said she quoted me frequently, “Nothing should stop him from getting a degree.”

What advice would you give to a current Empire State College student?
Persevere! To quote a coffee mug given to me on my graduation, “The tassel is worth the hassle.”

Why do you give back to Empire State College?
I’m proud to be an alumni and believe it’s an excellent way for non-traditional students to complete their education.
