Why did you choose Empire State College? What do you think is the best thing about the college?
I chose SUNY Empire because my then employer, AARP, offered the program to employees with tuition assistance. On top of that, online learning was appealing because of my work and family schedule. For me, the best thing about the college is the distance learning opportunity and awesome mentors! Susan Oaks, I love her! My one and only mentor from beginning to end, every step of my way until I graduated!

How did Empire State College help you shape your personal and professional goals?
I enjoy pulling information together to make a lasting statement, so the writing assignments helped polish my writing skills. In my present position, I’m tasked with creating job descriptions, organizing information for reports, including writing resumes in my spare time, so, my college writing skills have been a plus for me! To date, and who knew, I would be working on my autobiography, anticipated short stories and other writing projects for my second career!

What is your career highlight or proudest career moment to date?
As a Management Analyst, handling Human Resources, the office budget and purchasing, one of my responsibilities is counseling and coaching staff about the value in using a positive approach to situations. Inside and outside of the office, I practice this approach. When an issue is resolved, a dilemma worked out, it’s a proud moment for me!

What advice would you give to a current Empire State College student?
Organization, time management, communication, focus, dedication and perseverance equals success! Hang in there, you can do it!

Why do you give back to SUNY Empire?
I give back to help others. Each one “help” one! I believe with all my heart we are all here to help each other!

Anything else you would like to share with fellow alumni and students?
For alumni, keep being the awesome person you were created to be! For students, follow your heart and let nothing deter you from being the awesome person you were created to be!
