What three words best describe who and what you are?
Determined, focused, and hilarious.

What inspired you to earn your college degree? What was your “moment”?
I knew I wanted to make a difference in the world and in my community and to gain the skills to do so, I needed a college degree.

Why did you choose to attend ESC?
I had been to college before but had to drop out due to an illness. Finishing my degree online at ESC allowed me flexibility so I didn’t have to quit my job and I didn’t have to worry about being too ill to attend class.

Who supported and encouraged you along the way?
My parents definitely were my support system as well as my mentor, Dr. Menoukha Case. She was always there to answer any questions I had and was just as determined for me to finish my degree as I was. It was so nice to have a mentor like that.

What, if any, obstacles did you overcome?
My obstacle was definitely the almost five year break I took from academics before returning and having Lupus. With Lupus, I can be totally fine and healthy one day and the next day be unable to get out of bed. Fortunately, any professor I had was very understanding and I didn’t have to get out of bed to attend class, I could put my computer right next to my pillow and do work!

What advice would you give to a prospective ESC student?
If you’re planning on doing your degree online, don’t assume it will be easy. The classes are difficult and you have to work hard but that makes the payoff feel so good. When you get your degree you know it will be worth something because you worked hard to earn it.

How has your experience at ESC changed your life since graduation?
I was able to get a job in my field as a health educator. I couldn’t have done that before.
