What three words best describe who and what you are?
Productive. Committed. Intuitive.

What inspired you to earn your college degree? What was your “moment”?
After finishing my Associate of Science degree in Visual Communication Design in 2006, I worked as a Graphic Designer at a leading media house in Trinidad. I worked alongside another graphic designer and video editors, from whom I learned a lot with regards to the use of non-linear editing software. Working in the media industry ignited my passion to update and broaden my level of education. I sometimes helped the video editors whenever there was a good deal of work, which opened my creative thinker to research for this study. My journey as a Graphic Designer and my involvement in video editing motivated me to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Production.

Why did you choose to attend ESC?
A bachelor’s degree in media production will give me the flexibility to influence and move around within the design field in the media. Wanting to further my education in the field of media and film, ESC allowed me to customize my degree plan to reflect my interests within that field, where I can focus on Post-Production (Bachelor of Arts degree with a Registered Area of Study in the Arts, and a concentration in Media Production).

Who supported and encouraged you along the way?
My husband supported and encouraged me.

What, if any, obstacles did you overcome?
I overcame the obstacle of self doubt and achieved A’s in all my classes.

What advice would you give to a prospective ESC student?
Don’t be afraid. Trust yourself. You will know what you are able to handle. Be patient… And make sure you take time for yourself to regroup, if you ever feel like giving up!

Why do you give back to SUNY Empire?
Besides the fact that it feels awesome to give back at ESC, I think it is important to make an impact by volunteering and strengthening our communities.
