Brooklyn Black History Month Celebration

Description: Join us at the Brooklyn Library for an evening of Art, Music and Literature in honor of Black History Month.

6 p.m. – Reception - Music by the Mansoor Sabree ’00 Jazz Ensemble

7 p.m. – Awards Ceremony

8 p.m. – Musical performance by the Marcus McLaurine ’09 Quartet featuring Dee Daniels, with brief introduction by mentor and jazz historian,Joe Washington.

Our Honorees:

Citizen Laureate Award
Benedict Fernandez ’87, internationally acclaimed photographer who spent a year documenting the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

* Distinguished Alumna
Laurel Masse ’05, founding member of Manhattan Transfer and prolific recording artist.

Heritage Award
Emil Moxey Ph.D., longtime tenured professor of Community & Human Services and of Social Science at the college’s Metropolitan Center in Brooklyn.

Distinguished Alumnus
Walter Dean Myers ’84, New York Times bestselling author of books for children and young adults.

* Ms. Massé will be honored at the Hudson Valley Center Commencement.
