Why did you choose Empire State College? What do you think is the best thing about the college?
I’m basically a life-long autodidact. I generally learn best on my own, and like to learn continuously. SUNY Empire provided the best possible environment for a learner like me. I was able to contract some of the intellectuals I most admire as my personal instructors, and structure an ideal course of study with them. In addition, at the time I enrolled, I had already accumulated a large amount of valuable life experience, most of which I was able to put towards my degree.

How did Empire State College help you shape your personal and professional goals?
At Empire I was able to design a curriculum that included personal interests such as philosophy and economics along, with professional skill sets such as graphic design. So I was able to achieve both personal and professional growth to a degree that wouldn’t have been possible at most other colleges.

What is your career highlight or proudest career moment to date?
There are too many to list, but a recent highlight was for my self-designed website, https://www.newyorkjazzbands.com, to be chosen by Adobe as an Adobe Muse Site of the Day.

What advice would you give to a current Empire State College student?
Choose a college like Empire when you already have achieved a high enough level of knowledge and self-understanding as to be able to intelligently help design your own curriculum.

Why do you give back to SUNY Empire?
I appreciate the opportunity Empire gave me to realize my educational ideals.
