Why did you choose Empire State College? What do you think is the best thing about the college?
SUNY Empire was the ONLY logical option! As an adult with accumulated credits from various institutions spanning many years, a wealth of experiential learning and the necessity to complete my degree in an accessible, flexible and adult focused environment, Empire State is the perfect solution. As an adult learner with work, family, and community/life commitments, the traditional college setting did not offer the flexibility I needed to succeed. Previous attempts to conform to the formal structure of the college student model had limited success. I desperately wanted to complete my degree but could not comply with daytime/course load/mandated program schedules in my typical working adult life, for more than a semester or two. Enter- the adult learner alternative…SUNY Empire State College! Founded in 1971 as the adult solution to higher education and degree completion, Empire State has been an innovative leader in the concept of adult education ever since.

The BEST aspect of SUNY ESC? Trick question! There are many “bests”, from affordability, personalized service, mentors, support staff and services that go above and beyond, to programs designed for those who have prior learning and transfer credit, flexible class options and online/distance accessibility. Perhaps at the very top of the BEST list- are the people of SUNY Empire State College; Phenomenal individuals who work tirelessly on your behalf. At ESC, YOU are important, valuable, and not just a number, a statistic or contributing to the bottom line. They are there for YOU to empower and facilitate you to realize your academic goals and succeed in your quest to complete your degree. Stop in to any SUNY ESC office and see for yourself!

How did Empire State College help you shape your personal and professional goals?
As a result of my personal educational journey, and my experiences at SUNY Empire State College, I am committed to utilizing my energies to facilitate and empower other adults. I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Adult Learning and hope to, one day, be instrumental in helping others realize their dream of college degree completion.

What advice would you give to a current Empire State College student?
Slow and steady wins the race! Stick with it, take care of yourself, surround yourself with support, reach out to classmates, use whatever resources you need, utilize the college opportunities to interact in our awesome community of adult learners and BELIEVE in your ability to succeed!

Why do you give back to SUNY Empire?
We are successful human beings…….when we use our talents to raise others up. Together, we can all make our world a better place, one mind at a time!
